“ Amazing facility for retired veterans and family members. The hospital dining facility does a great breakfast and lunch for a low cost. ”
“ Food is usually good. The staff is very friendly and upbeat. Portions are hit or miss. The schedule is pretty consistent in the daily meals. Wish there was a sandwich line always open as it's nice to get a quick bite to go. But it's a good value to eat here. ”
“ The giant oatmeal raisin cookie is the best oatmeal raisin cookie ever. Also 20 cents. ”
“ Good price. Affordable. Wish they had some specials more often. Only one star taken off because I had uncooked catfish. Didn't go back down cause I work on the 3rd floor and it was about to close ”
“ The MOST decent hospital/cafeteria food I have ever had ! and at an extremely affordable price - food is fresh and served hot- they have a full salad bar and hot soup as well. I will make sure I grab lunch here whenever I am an appointment. ”
“ With all due respect to palate extraordinaire "food critic" and penny miser Joy J. -- you've been eating one too many 99 cent value items. "Price is pretty steep for the fact its cafeteria food and in a military base"!?! Please tell us where you can get a T-bone or ribeye steak meal for lunch (or shrimp scampi or even crab legs on special occasions when in season) with all the necessary sides, for under $10? You can't. Not even at Subway, Pizza Hut, Ohkura or Burger King, the closest eateries outside the Travis AFB fenceline. For example, today I'm having traditional Irish fare for lunch in recognition of St. Patrick's Day this weekend (one of DGMC's special "themed" meals, complete with decorations for the occasion) comprised of Corned Beef and potatoes, gingered carrots, Soda bread and Potato soup. The total cost? $4.80 A bowl of freshly made (real) Oatmeal in the morning will run you all of $0.40 cents whereas it's three times the cost for the "instant" variety at McDonald's. Scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, dice potatoes or even a made-to-order omelette will run you under $2. That's hardly breaking anyone's piggy bank. For lunch on typically normal meal days, you can choose from the main entrees of the day (there's a 2-3 week rotation to avoid too much repetition), the grill line, freshly made to order sandwiches, a large salad island, plus beverages and desserts -- and still get out the door for around $5-$6. Cash *is* King here -- and rightly so -- only because it would hold up the line at the registers to process credit or debit card transactions. However, there's a Travis Credit Union ATM parked right outside the dining hall, next to the mini-BX and Havu-A-Java coffee stand. Not only are the prices more than reasonable against the local fast food fare found in Solano County, the selections are much more healthy too. This is due in no small part that the DGMC dining hall (it's *not* a cafeteria) is operated by the Nutritional Medicine flight, comprised of Air Force medical staff and specialists. This includes trained and certified nutritionists and civilian food service personnel (for all of March, they're celebrating National Nutrition Month with additional special selections in addition to the normal fare). It should come as no surprise the food here is not just the best at Travis. It's not even just the best in the Air Mobility Command. The fact is, the food and services at DGMC has been rated as the best in the Air Force. The entire U.S. Air Force. For three years in a row. Is it any wonder base personnel come from the other side of the base just to eat here when they could eat at the BX foodcourt or elsewhere? ”
“ No hospital cafeteria horror stories here.... The food here is prepared by chefs, no GI slop served. A great variety of choices, pizza, hamburgers & fries, hot entrees with fresh vegetable sides and a huge salad bar. You ahve to have proper ID to get on base and bring your CA$H, they don't do plastic. ”
